Electrosprayed cashew gum microparticles for the encapsulation of highly sensitive bioactive materials

This study focuses on the production and characterization of electrosprayed cashew gum (CG) microparticles that encapsulate β-carotene. CG is an inexpensive, non-toxic polysaccharide obtained from Anacardium occidentale trees. Encapsulation β-carotene in was performed by electrospraying two emulsion formulations (water : oil ratios 80:20 90:10 (v/v)) which dispersed phase consisted dissolved castor oil, continuous a aqueous solution. Spherical particles with smooth surface medium size between 3 6 μm were obtained. The produced (v/v) showed loading capacity 0.075 ± 0.006 % minor amount extractable β-carotene, 10.75 2.42 %. ATR-FTIR confirmed absence interaction particles’ components. demonstrated to offer thermoprotection, photoprotection for short periods time. These results make viable candidate bioactive compounds via agricultural, food pharmaceutical applications.
